PORTOROŽ / PORTOROSE
Portorož is one of Slovenia’s most famous seaside resorts, located on the Adriatic coast in the municipality of Piran. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when Venetian monks founded a Benedictine monastery with the Church of St. Bernardin, which remains one of the town’s recognizable landmarks. In the 19th century, Portorož developed into a health resort thanks to the healing properties of seawater, salt, and mud from the Sečovlje Salt Pans. During the Austro-Hungarian period, it became a fashionable destination attracting visitors from all over Europe.
Key attractions include the seaside promenade, the historic Palace Hotel from the early 20th century, the nearby Sečovlje Salt Pans, and the picturesque old town of Piran. The town is also renowned for its wellness and spa services, as well as its lively nightlife.
Business tourism plays an especially important role. Portorož is one of Slovenia’s leading congress destinations, offering modern infrastructure, hotels with large conference facilities, and excellent connections to international airports. Conferences and business events complement the holiday season and enhance the town’s international reputation.
