Portorož is one of Slovenia’s most famous seaside resorts, located on the Adriatic coast in the municipality of Piran. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when Venetian monks founded a Benedictine monastery with the Church of St. Bernardin, which remains one of the town’s recognizable landmarks. In the 19th century, Portorož developed into a health resort thanks to the healing properties of seawater, salt, and mud from the Sečovlje Salt Pans. During the Austro-Hungarian period, it became a fashionable destination attracting visitors from all over Europe.

How to get to Portorož from airports, if you travel by plane?

- Jože Pučnik airport – LJUBLJANA, Slovenia: about 100 minutes
- Marco Polo airport – VENICE, Italy: about 2 hours
