TOUR OF THE STRUNJAN SALT MINES (1.5 hours)
Man and the environment have been hand in hand in the Piran Salt Mines for centuries. Over the centuries, man has shaped a unique cultural landscape and an exemplary ecological connection between human needs, his actions and environmental sustainability for the needs of salt production.
While salt production initially served only the needs of the local population, it later, as a well-organized commercial activity, contributed to the development of individual towns and strongly marked their influence, role and development. Today, the area is valued as an exceptional cultural and natural heritage, a place of work, relaxation and recreation, which carries educational, ecological and social potential.
The salt mine tour will include learning about the history of the Piran Salt Mines, salt production processes, a tour of the basic salt mine infrastructure, and an updated overview of the importance, challenges and potential of salt mining.
